The Beverly Hills Residents Associations'
TOWN HALL MEETING / Wed. June 6, 7:30 PM
All
About Over-Development, Too Much Traffic, Too Little Parking
and What We Can Do About It
At the Beverly Hills Public Library Auditorium [2nd fl.]
Hosted by the Municipal League of B.H., the B.H. North Homeowners'
Assn., the B.H. South Homeowners Assn. and the B.H.
South Side Neighborhood Assn.
A
Suggested Agenda:
1) Would you like a nearby Gelson's
Market, but not the accompanying 18-wheelers, traffic congestion,
diesel fumes and noise in B.H.? How about a
regular shuttle service from B.H. to Gelson's in Century City?
2) Would you like to be able to
shop and/or meet friends for lunch on N. Beverly or N. Canon without
finding all parking spaces taken? How about a reservation
system for parking spaces? And/or more parking spaces being built on
the City-owned D-Lot, near Santa Monica Bl.than now planned?
3) What shall we do with the huge
City-owned T-Lot, just north of Wilshire Bl. between Beverly Dr.
and Crescent? How about a great plaza with a magnificent traditional
fountain, an expansive lawn, lovely flower beds and trees ? Underneath
could be well-lit and well-monitored parking.
4) Shall we restore the
historic Crescent Station Post Office to its original use? Should we
contract with the USPS to re-install the 3,300 P.O. boxes and window
service there? The displacement of thousands Crescent Station P.O.
customers to the Industrial Area's 3rd and Maple Dr. facility was a
grievous mistake, which could be corrected.
5) How much do you know about
MTA's plans to remove two traffic lanes on Wilshire Bl. for the
exclusive use of buses? Do you think it's a good idea or one we may
regret? Come learn more about it and give us your ideas.
6) The proposed Bel Jardin
Hotel, at Wilshire and Maple, has the neighbors upset about expected
additional traffic impacts. They've called for "traffic
calming" devices. We remember the bumps and humps that were tried
and removed. Will "traffic circles" find a similar fate?
7) The City's proposed General
Plan Review: Do residents want higher office buildings,
increased density and more adverse environmental impacts?
The City-appointed steering committee is heavy with pro-development
appointees. They may be suggesting who should serve as participants in
the process. Anyone may apply, however, the Council will undoubtedly
pick its favorites. What are the odds we'll get a balanced outcome, much
less one that is favorable to the residential quality of life in Beverly
Hills?
All this and refreshments too.
Be there, Wed. June 3 at 7:30 PM at the B.H. Public Library. |
